Autumn Field Day

Bee keeping Field Day

We are holding our first Field Day for this year on Sunday 29th March 2020. Some of the topics covered during the day will include, Pests,diseases and general care of bees and PIRSA requirements. We will also be getting hands on with the Flow Hives and the bees during the afternoon. We have decided to limit the numbers of quests attending to twenty people A delicious lunch and refreshments are included. The cost of the day is $80.00 per head. If you would like to attend, can you please let us know as soon as possible so we can confirm numbers. For more information you can call me on 0407183396 or send me a message. Please note: If the forecast for the day is over 33 degrees the day will be postponed. This will be the 92nd annual Red Hill Show on the Mornington Peninsula featuring entertainment, exhibitions, demonstrations and animals galore.

It’s true … Agricultural Shows are the most popular form of family entertainment in Australia today, and here on the Mornington Peninsula we have one of the best. Every year thousands of people attend the Red Hill Show to enjoy a great family day and be part of this wonderful community celebration. Run by a team of Volunteers, this is one of the largest Community Events on the Mornington Peninsula. You will also be able to visit the Flow Hive display and information stand attended by certified Flow Ambassador, Jan Dwipa and friends.

Brookie's Bees & Cheese Workshop

Cedar Anderson shares his passion for beekeeping at The Cape Byron Distillery. Join in for for all the fun, and learn how to make cocktails using Brookie's spirits and honey.

We are buzzed to be collaborating with Brookie's Gin to bring you the Brookie’s Bees & Cheese Workshop - a beekeeping workshop, paired with local cheese and honey inspired Brookie's cocktails (yum!). 

Join us in celebrating some of the hardest working locals at Cape Byron Distillery, the honey bees. 

Cedar Anderson, founder and creator of Flow Hives will be on site from 2:00pm on Sunday, March 1st to share his knowledge and passion of beekeeping. Learn how to harvest your honey with the turn of a tap and far less squashed bees than traditional harvesting! 

Take a tour down to our botanical garden to see the newly established Flow Hive where you will learn:

  • What to plant for happy bees
  • How to care for your honey bees
  • The best way to establish your own Flow Hive at home
  • How to harvest honey, Flow style
  • How to create cocktails using Brookie's spirits and honey

To curb your hunger, drinks will be paired with offerings from local cheese artisans, Paul and Kerry from Nimbin Valley Cheese Co. 

Tickets are limited, so get in early to see what all the buzz is about.

Main Ridge and surrounding areas, primary producers, clubs and community related events.

Main Ridge Day - The Sustainable Way is a coming together of all things community related in the Main Ridge area of the Mornington Peninsula. The Lions Club will hold a community garage sale, promote sustainable practices, and hold a BBQ to support Childhood Cancer Research. There will also be a range of presentations in the Main Ridge Hall through out the day. All the organizations which use the Main Ridge Reserve – the Tennis Club, Cricket Club, Bowls and Petanque Club will showcase their activities to the community, while the CFA will have displays and provide information for the coming fire season and many local traders will present their products. Enabling community connections, enhancing community spirit, developing a sustainable future.

Join Stu on the Roundtable Speed Swarming Saturday morning, and then for a Farm Tour on Sunday to see one of the projects funded by our Pollinator Support Program; an important program trialling the best seeds for pollinators.

Sarah Red-Laird, Founder and Executive Director of Bee Girl, and current WAS President, is honored and humbled to host the WAS Conference, and hopes to create not just a conference, but an experience that emphasizes what we are - a society.

The theme is “Hive Mind for the Greater Good,” built on the values of persistence and authenticity and celebrating community, women in leadership, and of course, bees and their keepers.

This weekend will be a mix of dynamic keynote talks, workshops built on the themes of art, beekeeping, social media and marketing, bee habitat conservation, education, native bees, and global research.

The 2nd Victorian Beekeeping Conference has been convened by a Steering Committee that consists of beekeepers from rural, regional and metropolitan Victoria.
