Sustainability is a core value for all of us at Flow. We offer these Flow Super Hybrids to those who also believe that it's better to make good use of our natural resources and are prepared to tinker a little – waste not, want knot!

Due to the nature of this second-grade timber, it is possible you may encounter some timber imperfections such as:

  • Small cracks or dents, minor warping, knots in the timber.
  • Moisture changes that may mean finger joints need shaving back.

A Flow Super Hybrid is perfect for beekeepers with an existing hive who want to experience the ease of harvesting with Flow and are also lovers of honeycomb.

Invented by father and son team, Stu and Cedar Anderson, our patented Flow Frame technology is the most significant advancement in beekeeping since 1852. It is now possible to simply turn the Flow Key and watch as pure, untouched, unprocessed fresh honey flows right out of the hive and into your jar.

Our Flow Super Hybrid is available in two sizing options:

  • 3 x Flow Frames compatible with Langstroth 8 brood frame width, or a Flow Hive Classic 6 frame
  • 4 x Flow Frames compatible with Langstroth 10 brood frame width, or a Flow Hive Classic 7 frame

Combining Flow technology with traditional wooden frames in your Flow Super allows you the flexibility to harvest honey on tap from your Flow Frames and delicious fresh honeycomb from your wooden frames. This package has the additional benefit of offering beekeepers the option to move wooden frames between the super and brood box, which can be useful for hive management.

There are only a limited quantity so get in quick to forage for a bargain!

The Invention / How It Works

Often referred to as the “Beekeeper’s Dream”, Flow was created out of a desire to make harvesting honey easier for the beekeeper and to lessen its impact on the bees.

“I really didn’t like squashing bees or disturbing the hive when harvesting, so I thought ‘there has to be a better way'."
- Cedar Anderson

For those that don’t know, harvesting honey used to be pretty labour intensive. After a decade of tinkering, our patented Flow Frame technology is the most significant advancement in beekeeping since 1852. It is now possible to simply turn the Flow Key and watch as pure, untouched, unprocessed fresh honey flows right out of the hive and into your jar.

Waste Not, Want Knot

Though the timber components for this hive are classified as scratch and dent, the Flow Frames included are still first grade.

The patented Flow Frame technology allows you to tap honey directly from your hive. Made in Australia from durable, highest quality, food-grade, BPA and BPS-free plastic - Flow Frames have taken the beekeeping world by storm.

The timber components of this hive are crafted from Western Red Cedar, using CNC technology, created from timber panels not utilized in our premium stock. Paired with a set of 3 or 4 Flow Frames, this super is the perfect way to convert your hive to the Flow method of harvesting, allowing you to harvest both pure unfiltered liquid honey and raw natural honeycomb.

We decided to use Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) as it is a beautiful timber with a remarkably fine and stable grain structure, and is sustainably sourced in North America close to our major customer base, reducing transport mileage.

Timber included in this product is made from naturally grown resources - each hive will be slightly different in character. Please see our FAQ for more information on our natural timber characteristics.

How much honey can I harvest?

When the super is full you can harvest up to 12 kgs (26.5 lb) of Flow honey from the 4 frame model, or 9 kgs (20 lb) of Flow honey from the 3 frame model. This is in addition to the honey in the comb that you'll get from your Flow Hybrid Super.

Watch as fresh, pure unfiltered honey Flows from the back of the hive directly into your own jars. No filtering, no mess.

Each Flow Frame holds approximately 3 kg (6.5 lb) of unprocessed honey, this can increase if the bees really build each frame out. Bee prepared with extra jars in case your first one overflows!

For more information on honey collection see our FAQ.

Safety, Care & Maintaining Your Flow Super Hybrid

Apply a coat or two of timber sealant to bring out the lustre of this beautiful timber, and help it last even longer.

Beekeeping is a labour of love. As with all animal husbandry, it’s a pastime which requires knowledge, skill and dedication and which carries with it inherent risks. Sooner or later, all beekeepers get stung. Some people have severe allergies to bee stings, so please be aware of the potential hazards when considering whether beekeeping is right for you.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING

  • So I harvested 1 Flow Frame today! Here is a half gallon jar.

Flow Hive was the best purchase I could have ever made. It worked exactly as advertised and I've learned so much about bees and taking care of them.

    Anthony

    Texas, USA

  • We did our first harvest on Sunday, we yielded 8.5 kg from 3 frames, so we are very excited.
We used simple glad-wrap over the bucket to stop potential pilfering. And not knowing for sure if you 'just turn a tap and get honey' we put it straight into a bucket with a gate and a sieve on top, just in case. We then poured out of gate from bucket into jars in the kitchen, in the a/c.
    Beeutiful!

  • F%#$! That's the Holy Grail of beekeeping.

    Murray Arkadieff

Farmgate Honey – commercial apiary, Australia

  • I put the flow hive honey super on my hive on July 10th, 9 days ago. Much to my amazement I looked through the side window and saw that the outside comb is about 2/3 filled.
The flow hive is a brilliant innovation, and makes producing honey incredibly easy for the beekeeper, and easy on the bees.
A friend who looked on was in awe, and is now considering purchasing his own flow hive!
