Bee-Grade Brood Boxes

AVAILABLE NOW
Made in USA (cedar wood)

Sustainability is a core value for all of us at Flow. We offer these brood boxes to those who also believe that it's better to make good use of our natural resources and are prepared to tinker a little—waste not, want knot!

Due to the nature of this second-grade timber, it is possible you may encounter some imperfections such as:

  • Small cracks or dents, minor warping, knots in the timber
  • Handle styles may differ on each side of box
  • Finger joints may show some variation.

Made in the US from durable, sustainably sourced North American Western Red Cedar, these Bee Grade Brood Boxes are available in 8 or 10 frame Langstroth deep sizing. They can be used for brood, or as an additional conventional honey super and are sized to be compatible with 8 or 10 frame Langstroth hives or the Flow Hive Classic 6 or 7

We only have a limited quantity, so get in quickly to forage for a bargain!

Waste Knot, Want Knot

This brood box is crafted from Western Red Cedar, using CNC technology. Created from timber panels not utilized in our premium stock.

We decided to use Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) as it is a beautiful timber with a remarkably fine and stable grain structure, and is sustainably sourced in North America close to our major customer base, reducing transport mileage.

Timber included in this product is made from naturally grown resources - each box will be slightly different in character. Please see our FAQ for more information on our natural timber characteristics

Safety, Care & Maintaining Your Flow Brood Box

Apply a coat or two of timber sealant to bring out the lustre of this beautiful timber, and help it last even longer.

Beekeeping is a labour of love. As with all animal husbandry, it’s a pastime which requires knowledge, skill and dedication and which carries with it inherent risks. Sooner or later, all beekeepers get stung. Some people have severe allergies to bee stings, so please be aware of the potential hazards when considering whether beekeeping is right for you.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING

  • Greetings from denmark. You did it - now we know it works. We just did the first harvest last weekend. Harvesting approx 10 kg honey.

The only thing was that it didn't last for longer because it was so funny and a great joy that we have looked forward to for a long time. We even kept a close eye on the frame close to the inspection window and was surprised to see NOTHING happening when we opened the cells..

  • It has been really exciting to be included in the first automatic honey-harvesting device in history. I am really proud of what the Andersons have achieved. Cedar gave me the first jar of honey ever harvested in this way and it is still in my pantry, too precious to be eaten. Congratulations, you two.

  • I can't thank you enough for the creation of flow hive!
My beekeeping hobby has turned into a family hobby a first for my family.
    Thank you!

  • I put the flow hive honey super on my hive on July 10th, 9 days ago. Much to my amazement I looked through the side window and saw that the outside comb is about 2/3 filled.
The flow hive is a brilliant innovation, and makes producing honey incredibly easy for the beekeeper, and easy on the bees.
A friend who looked on was in awe, and is now considering purchasing his own flow hive!
