Introducing our USA Flow representative

Salutations beekeepers and bee dreamers!

Here at Flow HQ we are super excited! We now have a Flow representative on the ground in the US to represent us at beekeeping events – Nanette Davis from Garden Variety Bees

Check out the article below from Nanette – she’s both an experienced beekeeper and an experienced Flow Hiver.

Introducing our USA Flow representative

I’m Nanette Davis, a Flow Founding Supporter, a Texas Master Beekeeper and an aspiring iPhone photographer. I love learning new things and, as all beekeepers discover, working with bees provides plenty of intrigues, learning opportunities, and challenging photographic escapades (you know what I’m talking about if you’ve ever been fully suited, covered in bees and honey and have still tried to take a photo). I’ve been fascinated with bees from an early age when I rescued a bee from my bedroom window, only to discover another bee, and another, and still another when I came back from releasing the first. Our family discovered that a swarm of bees had landed on our house in search of a new home. The swarm decided not to stay but the wonder of the moment never left me. That memory eventually inspired me to become a beekeeper more than thirty years later.

Speaking of years... This month marks my eight-year-apiversary! It’s been eight years since my first package of bees arrived and today it almost seemed as if Flow had decided to celebrate with me because when I returned home, there was a tall stack of boxes by the door with Flow stamped all over them. You know, Flow boxes can only mean one thing - Flow Hives!

In reality, Flow is celebrating its own three year anniversary, and I remember that fateful day when I first saw the Indiegogo video.

I recall watching the harvest on the video, but instead of wondering if it was true, I wondered how it was true. I thought about it for a day, imagining the different ways to make it happen (there were no views of the hive interior initially, so the mechanics were a complete mystery) before I decided it could be done and that I must see it in person. It was a long year of waiting for my first Flow to arrive but I was beyond excited to finally have it in hand. Today I still feel the same thrill of potential with the arrival of each new hive – how will this one look when I’m done? What color will it be? How many thousands of bees will live here?

That’s the short and sweet version of why I became interested in bees and later decided to join the Flow Indiegogo campaign. And the hives that came today...? They were sent to prepare for our next Flow event where you can come by and see the different models. So stop in to say hi, take a peek under the hood, ask a few questions, and turn the key for yourself. Whether it’s old history or a new beginning, we can’t wait to talk about your Flow story. See you there!

"Ask two beekeepers one question, get three answers."

At Flow, we love to hear from all kinds of beekeepers using all types of methods, but their views are their own and are not necessarily endorsed by Flow. We advise reading widely, connecting with your local beekeeping association and finding a mentor as you delve into this fascinating hobby.
