Flow Hive 2 Features
The Flow Hive 2 has all the benefits of our original Flow Hive Classic, with some new additional features which make beekeeping with Flow even more exciting!
Created from highly durable, sustainably-sourced, A-grade, Western Red Cedar, the Flow Hive 2 is laser-cut and built with precision by us in Australia.
Integrated adjustable hive stand
As an exclusive presale offer, for all purchases during this third birthday celebration we're including an adjustable leg kit (worth $89) at no extra cost. This handy feature enables you to control the height and level of your hive perfectly, even on uneven ground.
The ability to precisely adjust the height of the hive on each individual corner, makes just about any terrain suitable for a Flow Hive.
2x inbuilt spirit levels
The newly redesigned base features two inbuilt spirit levels to ensure that your hive's setup is optimal for honey harvesting and to help the bees in building straight natural brood comb.
The unique ventilation control system allows you to support your bees as the seasons change, increasing or decreasing air flow depending on external weather conditions.
Our new base design features a multifunctional tray which slides into the base and allows you to trap pests and monitor your colony's health.
The brood box handles are deeply cut for easier lifting. The brood box comes with 8 foundationless brood frames for the bees to naturally build their brood comb. The brood frames are also built to accommodate wax and wire or plastic foundation if you wish.
Premium brass fixtures
The Flow Hive 2 features high-quality durable solid brass fixtures throughout, which over time will become a beautiful tarnished colour.
Flow Hive super
The Flow Super (the honey box) is specially designed to accommodate our patented Flow Frames and now features observation windows on both sides, giving you more insight into the fascinating world of your bees.
Also included at no extra cost is a convenient, height adjustable harvesting shelf (value $29) to make collecting your honey even easier than before.
Inner cover with plug
Our inner cover is designed with a central hole should you need to feed your bees in lean times. This now comes with a convenient plug allowing you to control bee access to your roof cavity if you would like to allow them to build honeycomb in the roof.
The shingled roof sections now come pre-glued as one panel for better weather protection, and with placement guides for easier assembly.
Protection against the elements
Our gabled roof now comes with sturdy brass wing screws, to ensure the roof is secure even in adverse weather conditions.
Handy assembly tool
The Flow Hive 2 comes complete with an assembly tool so you can easily put your hive together, even by hand if you wish.

The Invention / How It Works
Often referred to as the “Beekeeper’s Dream”, Flow was created out of a desire to make harvesting honey easier for the beekeeper and to lessen its impact on the bees.
“I really didn’t like squashing bees or disturbing the hive when harvesting, so I thought ‘there has to be a better way'."
- Cedar Anderson
For those that don’t know, harvesting honey used to be pretty labour intensive. After a decade of tinkering, our patented Flow Frame technology is the most significant advancement in beekeeping since 1852. It is now possible to simply turn the Flow Key and watch as pure, untouched, unprocessed fresh honey flows right out of the hive and into your jar.
Precision Manufacturing & Premium Timber
The patented Flow Frame technology allows you to tap honey directly from your hive. Made in Australia from durable, highest quality, food-grade, BPA and BPS-free plastic – Flow Frames have taken the beekeeping world by storm.
The Flow Hive 2 is our first hive to be manufactured in-house, using precision laser cutting.
This allows us to focus on quality control and ensure the highest levels of sustainability throughout the process, and also gives us the ability to innovate more quickly.
Crafted from premium Western Red Cedar and paired with a full set of 6 Flow Frames, this is one sweet hive!
We are using Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) as it is a beautiful timber with a remarkably fine and stable grain structure, and is sustainably sourced in North America.
Timber included in this product is made from naturally grown resources – each hive will be slightly different in character. Please see our FAQ for more information on our natural timber characteristics.
How much honey can I harvest?
Harvest up to 18 kgs (40 lb) of honey when the super is full. Watch as fresh, pure unfiltered honey Flows from the back of the hive directly into your own jars. No filtering, no mess.
Each Flow Frame holds approximately 3 kg (6.5 lb) of unprocessed honey, this can increase if the bees really build each frame out. Bee prepared with extra jars in case your first one overflows!
For more information on honey collection see our FAQ.
Safety, Care & Maintaining Your Flow Hive
Apply a coat or two of timber sealant to bring out the lustre of this beautiful timber, and help it last even longer.
Beekeeping is a labour of love. As with all animal husbandry, it’s a pastime which requires knowledge, skill and dedication and which carries with it inherent risks. Sooner or later, all beekeepers get stung. Some people have severe allergies to bee stings, so please be aware of the potential hazards when considering whether beekeeping is right for you.
